The party would forgive Puttalam district Parliamentarian Sanath Nishantha and reconsider the decision taken by the Central Committee to suspend his party membership if he makes a public statement that he accepts President Maithripala Sirisena as the President of the SLFP, Western Province Chief Minister Isura Dewapriya said.

The SLFP Central Committee recently decided to initiate disciplinary action against Nishantha and to suspend his party membership for allegedly criticizing the party leadership and making a statement to the media that he will not accept President Sirisena as the leader of the Party.

“Even today I saw in a newspaper Nishantha making a statement to the media saying that he had not changed his opinion. I even saw MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday(07) saying that the disciplinary action against MP Sanath Nishantha is the first step towards destroying the SLFP and that could possibly be done to fulfill the wishes of external powers.

“I am requesting Mahinda Yapa to refrain from making such hilarious comments as a senior politician. Leave alone external powers even the local people came to know about an individual called Sanath Nishantha only after this issue. The JO had provided us enough humor during their Paada Yathra and I ask our senior politicians not make our bellies ache furthermore by such statements.”
