Meanwhile, the government has raised its concerns over the behaviour of Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran over the past year or so.
Wigneswaran who assumed duties as the Chief Minister in October 2013 has thus far failed to assist previous government or the present government which also has the backing of the TNA, the party which he got elected from, in any development efforts being carried out.
Several in the government have pointed out that his behaviour has become a ‘no action – talk only’ scenario depriving the legitimate basic needs of the Tamil community which elected the provincial political authorities to address the pressing requirements.
Further, whatever the government does, the Northern Provincial Council is opposing and bringing an end to all resettlement and development activities.
Several Tamil politicians also voiced their concerns in the last few months that it is time for the people to recognize the political ends and personal interest of politicians like Wigneswaran, and that if the people fail to express their strong views on this type of personalized agenda, in the long term it can have disastrous consequences.
The government observes that Wigneswaran in his past three years in office has only demanded lands back, while hindering all development projects including housing projects, fisheries harbours and the development of Palali Airport.
It is learnt that relevant authorities are now on alert to assess whether there is a sinister move behind all these decisions by the NPC as it will ultimately lead to unrest among the people not having access to resources or any development.
