Frontline Socialist Party Warns Tamils not to be Deceived About a Federal North – East Set -Up by Tamil National Alliance

Tamils should not harbour any hopes of solutions for their problems through a federal set up in the North and the East, the Frontline Socialist Party said yesterday.

Propaganda Secretary of the FSP Pubudu Jagoda, addressing a press conference at the Centre for Society and Religion in Maradana, said the TNA was fishing in troubled waters.

“The TNA’s objective is clear. It is using its federalism demand to attract popular support and to swell the number of the supporters. We hope that Tamil people will not fall for such tactics.”

No Tamil political party leader had genuinely attempted to find solutions to problems people were faced with for the past 60- 70 years, he said. “All they tried was to make use of the problems of Tamil people to win their political objectives. That same old trick is being tried once again.”

He said: “Soon after the end of the war, Mahinda Rajapaksa had an unprecedented opportunity to muster the support of all stakeholders to find a solution. He did not do so, but thought only of his political future and his triumphalism alienated the Tamils. Now this government which came to power promising reconciliation has been doing nothing. For example, there is a minister of National Co-existence, Dialogue and Official Languages in this government. What has he done to bring about reconciliation?
