At the first meeting attended by new National Organiser of the SLFP Susil Premajayantha at Biyagama with over 1,000 party members, it was unanimously decided by the SLFP Central Committee there that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should be the Prime Ministerial Candidate at the next general election.

Premajayantha addressing the gathering said that the party members should co-operate with President Maithripala Sirisena, the SLFP President.

Some party members objected to the assertion made by the new National Organiser.

The event was organised by former Deputy Minister and Parliamentarian Dulip Wijesekera at Makola. Rajapaksa’s name was proposed by Western Provincial Councillor Gunasiri Jayanath.
