The ongoing marital dispute between Tamil actor and politician Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam has taken a fresh turn, with his estranged wife filing a new petition in court seeking maintenance and residential rights amid their pending divorce case.
The development comes two days after the TVK founder spotted with his alleged girlfriend and actress Trisha at a wedding in Chennai.
Sangeetha Files New Petition
Sangeetha has filed an interim petition before the Chengalpattu court seeking financial maintenance for herself and their two children, according to DMK-owned Sun News.
In the petition, she has argued that Vijay, one of the highest-paid actors in the Tamil film industry who earns crores from his films and endorsements, should provide a fair livelihood for her and their children.
She has requested the court to direct Vijay to pay appropriate maintenance until the divorce case is resolved.
The petition states that she currently requires financial support to maintain herself and their children, especially as the legal proceedings between the couple continue.
In addition to maintenance, Sangeetha has also sought the right to reside in Vijay’s property in Neelankarai, Chennai. She has asked the court to allow her to stay at the house located at Kapaleeswarar Nagar, Neelankarai, through an interim order.
According to the petition, she has claimed that Vijay is refusing to allow her access to the property. The plea highlights that she currently does not have a separate residence in Chennai and is therefore seeking permission from the court to continue living in the Neelankarai house until alternative arrangements are made following the divorce.
Background:Divorce Petition And Allegations
Sangeetha had earlier approached the Chengalpattu court seeking divorce from Vijay. In that petition, she reportedly made several serious allegations against the actor. One of the key claims was that Vijay had been in a close relationship with another actress since 2021. Though the actress was not named in the petition, the claim sparked intense speculation in the media and on social media.
Sangeetha reportedly stated that she had confronted Vijay about the alleged relationship and requested that he end it.
According to the petition, Vijay had assured her that he would resolve the issue, but she later alleged that he failed to keep that promise and continued the relationship. The petition also mentioned that there were repeated arguments between the couple over the matter.
Despite attempts by lawyers from both sides to resolve the dispute through discussions, no final agreement could be reached. Sources said the couple tried to keep matters calm primarily for the sake of their children, with legal consultations reportedly continuing into 2025.
Vijay-Trisha Appearance Fuels Buzz
The latest petition has surfaced amid renewed buzz surrounding Vijay and Trisha. Two days ago, the actors were seen arriving together in the same car at a high-profile wedding in the film industry.
Their appearance quickly went viral on social media, triggering fresh speculation about their relationship. Photos and videos from the event circulated widely online, further intensifying discussions around the already sensitive divorce case.
While neither Vijay nor Trisha has publicly responded to the rumours, the timing of Sangeetha’s latest petition has drawn significant attention.
What Happens Next?
The divorce case between Vijay and Sangeetha is currently pending before the Chengalpattu court and is scheduled for further hearing on April 20. The court had earlier issued summons to Vijay regarding the matter.
Legal experts say that since Sangeetha’s latest plea has been filed as an interim application, the court could take it up for consideration before the next scheduled hearing if her legal team presses for urgent relief.
If the court admits the petition, it may pass an interim order regarding maintenance and residential rights while the main divorce proceedings continue.
