Govt to Deploy State Intelligence Officials to Monitor Grama Niladharis and Report Whether They are Carrying Out Their Duties Correctly in the Spheres of Providing Jobs and Food for Low Income Groups

The government has deployed intelligence officers to find out if the Grama Niladaris are doing a proper job in recommending people for a programme to provide 100,000 jobs to eligible persons from low income groups. They will also monitor the performance of Grama Niladaris in a programme to provide food for the poor.

Grama Niladaris are to recommend those who are eligible for the above mentioned programmes. The government has already instructed Grama Niladaris to adhere to the guidelines given by the state.

However, there have been reports that Grama Niladaris are recommending those who are not eligible due to various personal reasons.

The government announced, on Thursday, that the plan to recruit 100,000 unskilled youth to a ‘multi-task human resource force’ had reached its final stage. The notification for applications is to be issued by January 20, 2020. Those chosen will be provided employment in their respective areas of residence and at a monthly salary of Rs. 35,000.
