Higher Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella said in Kandy on Monday (28), that the UNP would not allow the no-confidence motion against the Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne to be tabled in Parliament.
Minister Kiriella said that there were many legal deficiencies in the draft of the motion.
“We will hand over to the Speaker a written request urging him not to accept the no-confidence motion when it is presented,” Kiriella told the media at the Kandy District Secretariat after attending a meeting of the Kandy District Co-ordinating Committee.
The Minister said the UNP was capable of looking after the affairs of the country since the party had 106 seats in Parliament.
Asked about the proposed underpass linking Tennekumbura and Getambe via Suduhumpola a distance of nearly six kilometres, Kiriella said that the work would commence after the Environmental Impact Assessment was received.
Work on the project would commence by the middle of next year, he said, adding that the underpass would not be like the disastrous Uma Oya tunnel.
The underpass would be constructed by a Korean construction firm with experience in constructing similar projects, Minister Kiriella said.
