The General Secretary of the National Bhikkhu Front (NBF) told the eleventh convention of the Front in Kandy on Saturday (17) that many who died in the recent floods and landslides in Ratnapura and Southern Sri Lanka had their fingers cut to remove gold rings.

Venerable Wakamulle Uditha Thera, Secretary General NBF lamented that some greedy elements did not even spare a dead body.

Politicians of Sri Lanka were so greedy that they were acquiring duty free luxury vehicles while many people were crying out for relief having lost their family members and possessions.

The Thera said that the country’s economy had deteriorated under the present government and drastic action was called for to revive it.
