31 Year old Ranil Jayawardena of Sri Lankan Origin Retains North East Hampshire Constituency for the Conservatives Polling 37,754 Votes in UK Elections

Thirty -one year old Ranil Jayawardena of Sri Lankan origin was re-elected as Conservative Member of Parliament for the North East Hampshire Constituency in the current elections to the UK House of Commons.

Jayawardena who polled 37,754(66%) votes obtained a majority of 27,772 over his nearest contender Barry Jones from the Labour party who obtained 9982(17%)votes.

Jayawardena’s majority amounted to 48.19% in terms of percentage. The overall voter turnout in North East Hampshire was 76.35%

Among Other candidates at the hustings were Graham Cockerill of the Liberal Democrats who got 6,987 votes(12%) and the Green Party’s Chas Spradbery who polled 1476 votes(3%).

Mike Gascoigne of the United Kingdom Independence Party polled 1061 votes(2%) while Independent candidate Robert Blay got 367 votes.

Ranil Jayawrdene was first elected to the British parliament in the 2015 elections when he contested North East Hampshire as a 29 year old.He polled 35,573 votes. His closest rival Graham Cockerill of the Liberal Democratic party got only 5657 votes in 2015.
