The Colombo High Court Judge, Padmini N. Ranawaka Gunetillake, yesterday served indictment on UNP member of Parliament for Colombo District, Hirunika Premachandra and eight others.
The Attorney General had filed indictment in the High Court accusing Premachandra and others of abduction and assault of a youth, on December 21, 2015, at Dematagoda.
The Court granted bail in Rs. 50,000 cash and two sureties of Rs. 500,000 for each accused.
Foreign travel was prohibited and their passports are held in Court custody. The accused were advised not to tamper with the witnesses who would testify at the trial, fixed for January 10, 11, 2017.
If they disobeyed they will be remanded till the end of the trial.
Counsel Ajith Pathirana appeared for the accused.
Senior State Counsel, Janaka Bandara appeared for the Attorney General.
