Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ibrahim Anzar and the High Commission’s Second Secretary were subject to an assault near the Kuala Lampur Airport. Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando told Ceylon Today, “A group of LTTE sympathizers, who were protesting against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had surrounded the Sri Lankan Envoy and rigorously attacked him.

The High Commissioner sustained head injuries and the Second Secretary, who was also injured, are currently being treated at a hospital in Kuala Lampur.

Protesters were shouting slogans against the former President when they arrived at the Airport.

They then demanded of the Envoy to reveal the whereabouts of former President Rajapaksa.

Ibrahim Ansar had asked the protesters to contact the Police on that.

The protesters had turned furious at that response and attacked the Envoy until he bled from his forehead.”

The protocol officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed the incident stating, ” We are aware of the situation. The High Commissioner is safe now. He is undergoing treatment. We will take the appropriate action over this development.”
