The Colombo Crime Division yesterday arrested two suspects wanted in connection with the kidnapping and killing of multi-millionaire textile businessman Mohamed Sakeeb Sulaiman.

The police said that the two suspects aged 22 and 23 had demanded a ransom of Rs. 20 million from the father of the victim, two days after the kidnapping, even though the victim had died soon after the abduction in a scuffle with his kidnappers who struck him with a blunt weapon.

The suspects are a porter working in Pettah and a worker at the fish market at Peliyagoda.

According to CCD officers the arrest of three more suspects was imminent.

Sulaiman (29) was kidnapped near his home at Kotalawala Avenue, Bambalapitiya on the night of Aug. 21.

His body was found on the slope of a hillock at Rukulagama, Mawanella.

The two suspects arrested yesterday had apparently been identified by police from CCTV footage obtained from a place in Kegalla town, from where they called the victim’s father demanding Rs. 20 million to release his son.

The police have also questioned the manager and the staff of the victim’s textile shop.
