The teenager ,who had hacked the official website of the President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena, has been sent to a probationary home for rehabilitation while his 26 year old accomplice has been remanded by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

The names of the two accused have not been revealed.

It is said that the youth from Kaduganawa had substituted the home page of the President’s website with their own input. They demanded the postponement of the A-level (top school level) exams and the President’s resignation if he cannot control the situation in Sri Lanka.

The suspects were taken into custody under the Computer Crimes Act and on conviction face a fine of 300,000 rupees ($2,000) and up to three years in jail.

Sri Lankan websites had been hacked in the past, but this was the first time that a teenager had been arrested under the Computer Crimes Act of 2007.
