Federation of National Organisations Chairman Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera yesterday flayed the government for being meek and submissive vis-a-vis Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Y. K.Sinha’s disparaging remarks about former Foreign Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris.
Dr. Amarasekera, addressing the media at Dr. N. M. Perera Centre at Borella said: “The Sirisena-Wickremesinghe government should have demanded the recall of the Indian High Commissioner after declaring him persona non grata due to his derogatory remarks but such bold action could not be expected of a government subservient to New Delhi.
Dr. Amarasekera hailed the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa for having expelled former British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka David Gladstone for interfering in the internal affairs of the country.
Amarasekera flayed the Joint Opposition for not reacting to the derogatory remarks made by the Indian High Commissioner.
He said it was very crucial incident and India was testing Sri Lanka and if both the government and the Opposition kept silent India would be emboldened to do more of the same.
Amarasekera said High Commissioner Sinha had become another Dixit.
