22 Out of 30 TNA Northern Provincial Councillors Revolt against Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran’s Political Conduct

Twenty –two out of a total Thirty Tamil National Alliance Northern provincial Councillors have revolted against what is perceived as the duplicitous political conduct of Chief Minister C.V.Wigneswaran. The 22 Councillors including two provincial ministers are signatories of an urgent letter sent to Mr. Wigneswaran that he should present himself for an important meeting with TNA members of the NPC.

Two crucial issues are to be raised at the meeting scheduled for January 20th 2016 where an ultimatum is expected to be issued to the TNA chief minister by TNA councillors.

Firstly a certain amount of criticism is to be levelled against Mr. Wigneswaran over the thoroughly inefficient manner in which his administration has been run for the past two years.The chief minister would be asked to rectify the situation by focussing his energy and efforts towards the running of the Northern Provincial council instead of involving himself in controversial political matters.

Secondly the chief minister is to be chastised for his role in forming a new political front known as the Tamil Peoples Council (Thamizh Makkal Paeravai)and becoming its joint chair without consulting or obtaining the approval of Northern TNA councillors. Since Wigneswaran was elected chief minister on the TNA ticket his fellow councillors opine that the ex –judge should remain loyal to the TNA and not consort with political elements opposed to the TNA.

The TNA councillors are expected to reiterate their “confidence” in Wigneswaran with the caveat that he must reform himself and refrain from engaging in duplicitous political conduct. Mr. Wigneswaran is likely to be informed that the TNA councillors want him to continue as chief minister and run an efficient administration. An ultimatum however would be issued that he must completely disassociate himself from the TPC . Wigneswaran would be told bluntly that the choice before him was to either continue as TNA chief minister or be TNC joint chair. It would be made clear that CV Wigneswaran cannot function simultaneously as the TNA chief minister while leading the TPC.

It is learnt that many of the TNA Northern provincial councillors want to replace CV wigneswaran with NPC Chairman CVK Sivagnanam as chief minister if the necessity arises.

The decision to convene an urgent meeting and summon Wigneswaran was taken due to the chief minister’s conduct it is learnt. Earlier a cordial meeting was scheduled between the chief minister and councillors on Jan 17th to discuss matters amicably.

The chief minister abruptly cancelled the meeting at short notice saying he was indisposed. What has irked the TNA councillors is the fact that Wigneswaran went on to participate in a meeting of the Tamil Peoples Council after informing the TNA that he was unwell.

Speculation is rife as to whether the defiant chief minister would attend the scheduled meeting or whether he would once again snub his fellow TNA councillors daring them to do what they can.
