National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa yesterday alleged that moves were afoot to promote casinos in Colombo, though those who campaigned for the Yahapalana government protested vehemently against the industry during the previous administration.

Addressing the media at the N.M. Perera Centre at Cotta Road, MP Weerawansa said that those who had lambasted the previous government for promoting casinos were making an attempt to boost the industry.

The NFF leader pointed out that Sunny Leone was expected in Colombo to promote a particular casino.

Weerawansa said Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera should raise his voice against actress Leone’s visit to the country because he was one of those who spoke against the casinos during the previous government.

“Recently, an organisation calling itself the Centre for Sex Worker’s Rights (CSWR) had requested the President to legalise sex workers and provide them legal recognition. There were reports asking for legal rights for gays as well and in the meantime we hear that the well-known actress Sunny Leone is visiting our country to promote casinos. Where are the religious groups and other politicians who protested against casino projects? This concert will definitely help to expand the casino industry. We should not let it happen,.”
