Democratic Left Front leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara said, in Parliament, yesterday that the countries interests had been subjugated to America’s geo-political agenda by the incumbent government.
Participating in the adjournment debate on Geneva UNHRC report and alleged human rights violations during the last phase of the war, MP Nanayakkara said: “Sri Lanka is fast becoming an American puppet. Time was when this country was ruled by a similar regime some decades ago. It was under President J R. Jayewardene’s tenure. Jayewardene was known world over as an American stooge. Hence, he was dubbed Yankee Dickie. He was falling over himself to please the US. Today, we have a Yankee Wickie. That is none other than Ranil Wickremesinghe.
“The government did not submit the Paranagama Commission report to the UNHRC. I heard Minister Rajitha Senaratne say that the Paranagama report was stronger than the report of the UNHRC Commissioner. If so, government could have submitted Paranagama Report there to neutralise the UNHRC allegations. They did not do so under pressure from the US. Yankee Wickie’s government succumbed to the US influence.”
UNP National List MP Jayamapathi Wickremaratne: “Those who call themselves leftists have veered off from leftism towards extremism. They are propagating extremist ideologies. We all are Sri Lankans and have a golden opportunity to usher in peace. The victims have a right to reparation. The country has a right to know what exactly happened during the war time.
Power and Energy Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera: “A citizen could have only a single passport. MP Weerawansa has two. He sees hybrid ghosts in everything because his entire life is hybrid. Weerawansa’s name is hybrid. He had another name when he was a journalist and now another. His behaviour is hybrid, policy is hybrid and the passport, too, is hybrid. We know that he has many other hybrid things.”
