Govt has Issued a Wrong Sinhala Translation of the UN Resolution Co-sponsored by Sri Lanka to Hoodwink the Public

Sri Lanka’s history is replete with betrayals of catastrophic proportions. The Island editorial of 30th September 2015 aptly titled ‘D-Day’ mentions most of these and to good effect and they include the Peace Agreement entered into with the Tamil separatist terrorists, the LTTE, a deed done by the then UNP government under the same leadership that has co-sponsored the UN Resolution in Geneva on the D-Day.

The LTTE would have finished us off courtesy the UNP, Norway et al if the Peace Agreement had held for a few more years. Fortunately, the then president Chandrika Kumaratunga, in spite of all her failings, sacked that regime.

This time around the separatists will get what they want on a platter. The US and Europe will make sure this happens to pursue their geo-political agenda in the Indian Ocean region. The 16th clause in the UN Resolution is included for this purpose and India’s comment at the time the Resolution was passed made reference to the full implementation of the 13th Amendment. Thus the cat is out of the bag.

At the time the Peace Agreement with the LTTE was signed the people were told about its benefits in an obvious attempt to cover up the real issues. The same is being done now by the same leaders. Then they said a security net was being built around the LTTE with the help of the West but in truth the LTTE was allowed to build their armoury and camps in preparation for the death blow. Now they say the UN Resolution is not about war crimes but the independence of the judiciary. This is a ludicrous claim, to say the least. The intents of the resolution are crystal clear. The government has issued a wrong Sinhala translation of the resolution to hoodwink the public.

A Deputy Minister comes on a TV programme and claims the foreign judges will not judge, the prosecutors will not prosecute and the lawyers will not interfere with our lawyers. When asked what they are going to do he says they will ensure the independence of the local judiciary.

Can’t our government take steps to ensure the independence of the judiciary?

Don’t we have competent judges with integrity who could conduct any investigation if necessary?

Do we need foreign interference to ensure our independence?

They say they want to know the truth.

Isn’t it already known?

Isn’t it well established that there were no deliberate acts of violence against civilian population during the final stages of the war?

What about the Paranagama Commission report? What about the opinion of Sir Desmond de Silva et al?

Why have these reports been shelved?

Is it because they demolish the arguments in the UNHRC report and resolution on this country?

Finally what about our friends in that International Community who have stood by us through thick and thin?

Haven’t they been let down very badly

? They have not said anything nor asked for a vote which shows their contempt for a country that has lost its dignity, sovereignty, and independence.
