President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the SLFP Chairman, has ordered the removal of 13 members from the party’s Central Committee, SLFP sources said.
The members who have been removed include Rathnasiri Wickramanayake, Susil Premajayantha, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, D. M Jayaratne, Janaka Bandara Tennekoon, Kamala Ranatunga, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Salinda Dissanayake and John Seneviratne, they further added.
The new members will be appointed to the Central Committee.
A senior party spokesman told the Daily News the President, as the party Chairman, is authorised to appoint 25 members to the party Central Committee.
Party sources added that the list of the newly appointed Central Committee members were sent to the Elections Department yesterday.
The new Central Committee will be convened on August 24.
Chandrika appointed to SLFP Central Committee
Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has been appointed to the party Central Committee by President Maithripala Sirisena, SLFP sources said.
Former President Kumaratunga is a Patron of the SLFP. However, when contacted, former President Kumaratunga’s Secretary P. Dissanayake said he was not in a position to officially confirm the appointment.
Prof. Vishwa Warnapala, Faizer Mustapha, Athauda Seneviratne, Jeevan Kumaratunga, U.K.Ariyathilake, Kesaralal Gunasekera, Ruwan Ranatunga and Keerthi Udawatte have also been appointed to the Central Committee, party sources said.
