A substantive motion signed by 116 members of the Opposition MPs and handed over to Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa in Parliament yesterday demanded the removal of Dilrukshi Dias Wickremesinghe from the post of Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on charges of abusing the powers of the CIABOC Act, obtaining two salaries from two public sector organisations etc..
UPFA Colombo District MP Bandula Gunawardena after making a speech on the content of the motion walked the isle to the Chair in the Chamber and submitted the document.
Gunawardena’s motion was seconded by UPFA National List parliamentarian Prof G. L. Peiris.
Gunawardena said that the motion would be submitted seeking the removal of Director General of the CIABOC for she had violated the provisions of the CIABOC act and the Constitution. She had acted arbitrarily and maliciously in summoning former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the CIABOC. She had not consulted other commissioners of the commission before doing so.
Dilrukshi Dias Wickremesinghe is a close family friend of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and her appointment was a political one, Gunawardena said, adding that therefore 116 MPs had resolved to demand her removal.
