In a bid to assuage the strained relationship between former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and incumbent Maithripala Sirisena, two groups of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members are planning a meeting between the duo, a former minister in the Rajapaksa government said.

However, former President Chandrika Kumaratunga will be kept away from the impending meeting.

Accordingly, SLFP members who are alleged to have aligned with Rajapaksa and working towards bringing him back as prime ministerial candidate and the other group who have joined the current government as ministers and deputy ministers were scheduled to meet in Colombo at 7.00 p.m. yesterday.

Former minister and Kurunegala District MP T.B. Ekanayake told the media that they are expecting to draft an agenda for the meeting of the two leaders and finalize the venue which, in their opinion, should be agreeable and comfortable to both Rajapaksa and Sirisena.

The two leaders are expected to discuss ways and means that should be adopted to contest future elections and clear off certain other issues that have prompted in recent times in order to unite the party.

The SLFP members also said the meeting of these two leaders is extremely decisive as the UNP is currently attempting to fish in troubled waters saying that the SLFP has split in to two.
