Priyantha Sirisena, the brother of President Maithripala Sirisena was hospitalised with serious injuries after he was assaulted by an unknown person at Hathare Ela area in Polonnaruwa.

It was reported that Mr. Sirisena had been attacked near a garage in the area at around 7. 00 p.m. and had been rushed to the Polonnaruwa Hospital.

Police said that no one has been arrested so far.

President’s younger brother ‘Weli Raju’ attacked

President Maithripala Sirisena’s younger brother Priyantha Sirisena alias Weli Raju has been hospitalised following an assault.

Police media spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said Sirisena was attacked with an axe by one of his associate who was identified as Lakmal.

Injured Sirisena, who was admitted to Polonnaruwa General Hospital with cut injuries has been later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.
