The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) yesterday grilled former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son Lt. Yoshitha on a light aircraft found some weeks back in a storeroom of a building belonging to the Economic Development Centre at Narahenpita.
Yoshitha, in his statement to the CID, had said that the veteran film producer Chandran Ratnam whom he referred to as Uncle Ratnam had given it to him as a gift.
Therefore, he intended to use it as an exhibit. The light aircraft was taken into custody by the police on January 14.
Police investigations revealed that it belonged to Yoshitha. In an earlier statement, Chandran Ratnam had said that Yoshitha had asked for the unserviceable light aircraft.
Yoshitha was accompanied by his brother Namal Rajapaksa, MP to the CID, where he had to give a statement for about an hour.
Yoshitha also had expressed his willingness to hand over the aircraft to the police.
