Chief Justice Mohan Peiris Submits Resignation Letter to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Chief Justice Mohan Peiris handed over his letter of resignation to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday (Jan. 21).

Immediately after the conclusion of presidential poll on Jan. 8, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) urged Chief Justice Mohan Peiris to tender his resignation to preserve the honor and integrity of the judiciary.

The Bar Association said as Chief Justice Mohan Peiris had been present at the Temple Trees on January 09th prior to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa conceded defeat at the presidential elections.

“It is reiterated and emphasised that it is absolutely essential for the Chief Justice and members of the judiciary to remain strictly separate and uninvolved in political and executive decisions,” BASL said in its statement.
