A press briefing of the Joint Opposition Alliance, scheduled to be held yesterday (24), was sabotaged by Dehiwala- Mount Lavinia Council member Savithra de Silva, who chanted he is forever for President Rajapaksa.

He stated that he had been requested by Provincial Council member Keerthi Udawatte to join the common Opposition and that he arrived here to state that he ‘would not bite the hand that once fed him’ and that he would not crossover to the Opposition.

“I don’t have much experience or knowledge in politics since I have only been in the profession for three years. The common Opposition is founded upon vengeful principles and there is no one who is interested in the benefit of the country or its people. I do not accept there is a democracy here. This meeting is happening peacefully because of the President and because he stopped the war or otherwise anyone could come here and a blow up a bomb inside this place. All I wanted to say is that I will support President Rajapaksa as I’ve done before,” he said.

Savithra de Silva then left the premises with some of his supporters who tried to create a scene at the venue. United National Party MP Sujeewa Senasinghe who was also present at the press briefing stated that his performance had been clearly orchestrated by government officials and that it was a clear representation of democracy, as he was allowed to address the media personnel.

He further stated that this shows how deteriorated the government’s political campaign has become.
