Common candidate of the opposition Maithripala Sirisena stated that he takes personal responsibility in carrying out all his promises mentioned in his policy statement.
The document “Maithri Palanayak, sthaavara ratak” (A Compassionate governance, a stable country), was launched earlier today at the Viharamaha Devi Park.
Sirisena said that there were many questions asked about the 100 day program, and the program thereafter, by various sectors. All these questions will be answered in the new policy statement he said.
He added that he will conduct the campaign with compassion despite all challenges thrown at him by the government. He said that the government has started to use his speeches from the 2010 presidential election campaign and added that it only shows that he was an important speaker for the victory of President Rajapaksa in his re-election.
People cannot be deceived by these stories, Sirisena added, stating that these were old stories and his latest speeches are totally different. People know my recent speeches, he said.
Sirisena also refuted government allegations that the country will lose its stability if he is elected. Sirisena added that Sarath Fonseka who had defeated the LTTE is with him and so is Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who lost one eye due to a terrorist bomb. UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is known as a trustworthy leader, will also not let a war return, Sirisena said.
However, the present government has taken the country to instability by centralizing the power on a few people, he added.
