Lawyer Naganande Kodituwakku Files writ in Appeal Court Claiming President Rajapksa Cannot Contest for a Third Time Under the Law.

Attorney-at-Law Naganande Kodituwakku of Nawala filed a Writ Application in the Court of Appeal, claiming that the incumbent president could not contest for Presidency for a third time and that his candidacy had no validity in law.

The petitioner has said that the President sought the opinion of the Supreme Court and that the Supreme Court gave the opinion, without a hearing. That has no constitutional validity. The opinion had not been made public.

Among the respondents are the Commissioner of Elections, the General Secretary of the UPFA, Susil Premajayantha, Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, the former Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake and the Attorney General.
