Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa has been appointed the new Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella announced today.

The new appointment comes after former Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena’s SLFP membership was cancelled yesterday after he announced he will contest against President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the next Presidential election. Deputy Minister Siripala Gamalath has been appointed as the SLFP Polonnaruwa District and Electorate organiser.

SLFP Suspends Membership of Maithripala,Rajitha,Duminda,Wasantha and MKADS

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has suspended the memberships and positions held by Parliamentarians Maithripala Sirisena, Rajitha Senaratne, Duminda Dissanayake, M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena and Wasantha Senanayake in the Party with immediate effect, the Vice President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa issuing a Media Release said.

The statement further added that the party suspended the membership of these Parliamentarians in terms of provisions of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Constitution.
