A Moratuwa University senior lecturer was yesterday remanded by Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Rangajeewa Wimalasena when produced in Court by the Colombo Crime Division for allegedly threatening External Affairs Monitoring MP Sajin Vaas Gunawardena by SMS.
Senior lecturer Kotagamage Duminda Leshan Perera of Hena Road Mount Lavinia was remanded till October 17.
Police said he was arrested following investigations on a complaint made by the parliamentarian on several short messages he had received on his mobile phone that he would be killed within five days near the Dehiwala public library. The complaint said the messages were in abusive language.
Police said further investigations would be conducted on the matter because the suspect was and educated and qualified person.
The magistrate ordered police to submit a report to Court after concluding investigations.
