Delimitation Committee Chairman Jayalath Dissanayake Must be Dismissed from Post for Political Bias in Favour of President rajapaksa.

National List UNP MP R.Yogarajan has called for the Chairman of the Delimitation Committee,Local Government bodies Jayalath Dissanayake to be dismissed from his post for ” being present at the inauguration of the Secretariat for the re-election of the President set up by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and declared open by Minister of Economic Developments Basil Rajapaksa and National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.”

In a letter to the Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils A.L.M.Athaullah he said “I am forwarding herewith a cutting of a Newspaper report in the Sunday Times of 28 September 2014. The contents of the news item identifies Mr. Jayalath Dissanayake the Chairman of the Delimitation Committee for demarcating the wards under the new Local Government elections acts as a person present at the inauguration of the Secretariat for the re-election of the President set up by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and declared open by the Minister of Economic Developments Hon. Basil Rajapaksa MAP. and National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

The attendance of the Chairman of the delimitation committee at a function of a political party to ensure the election of that party’s candidate exposes the bias of the said Chairman and renders the work done by the committee under his Chairmanship null and void and unacceptable. During the debate on the bill bought to amend the Local Government elections acts You personally assured parliament that you would appoint neutral persons as s stated in the bill. Though you may have appointed Mr. Jayalath Dissanayake in good faith he has acted in a politically biased manner. This has led to suspicion that he had attended the said function to receive the favour of the Government Party. A person of such calibre cannot be expected to have functioned without bias in his functions as Chairman of the said committee. Thus I request that Mr. Jayalath Dissanayake be dismissed from the position of Chairman and the work done so far be declared as invalid.”
