The monk who arrived in Sri Lanka on Friday (26) night is to remain in the country for four days. This is first time the monk has visited a foreign country.

Ven. Wirathu was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his sermons in 2003. He was later released in 2010.

Meanwhile it is reported that several Muslim organisations including the Sri Lanka Muslim Council wrote to President Rajapaksa and the Immigration chief protesting against the monk’s visit which they claimed would be harmful to the country’s ethnic harmony.

Ven. Wirathu is being accused by international human rights groups of inciting anti-Muslim violence in Myanamar.
