Woman Doctor from Lady Ridgeway Hospital Who Got Injection to Improve her Looks at Bambalapitiya Beauty Parlour Dies of Poisoning Within an Hour.

A forty seven year old woman doctor who visited a private beauty parlour named ‘Cosmetic Surgery Clinic’ in Bambalapitiya, Colombo today and obtained an injection to improve her looks and to become young and pretty had the misfortune of dying at the beauty parlour itself, police said.

Preliminary investigations had revealed that the doctor who was attached to the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital had died of poisoning after being administered an antibiotic injection.

The beauty clinic in question is well renowned for its latest beauty treatment methods. They include the removal of wrinkles from around the eyes and other forms of beauty treatment.

The deceased doctor was the mother of two children and resided on Senanayake Mawatha, Nawala. She had visited the beauty parlour at about 1.00 pm, and the treatment had commenced at about 3.00 pm. She had died within an hour.

The centre allegedly run by an MBBS qualified doctor and was patronised by affluent society women, including certain cinema personalities. The deceased had undergone treatment at this place on several previous occasions.

Police said that this centre does remove skin tissues from women in order to make their skin look younger and smoother. The doctor who had treated the deceased said that she had visited the centre for surgical treatment involving the removal of skin from her abdomen and grafting it around her eyes.

Prior to the operation the doctor had administered an antibiotic injection, and she had immediately begun to cough and been taken ill. The doctor attending on her had then realised that she had died. He had immediately informed Bambalapitiya police.

Police sated that this place had been in operation for several years and film artistes, and affluent women patronised the place.
Preliminary magisterial inquiry was to be held last night.

The police were due to arrest the doctor who had treated the victim. SSP Premalal Ranagala of the Colombo south area is directing further investigations


Cosmetician remanded

Doctor Nimal Gamage, who had allegedly run a cosmetic surgery clinic in Bambalapitiya, was remanded until August 18 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.

He was arrested in connection with the death of a female patient who was undergoing a cosmetic treatment at the clinic.
