Venerable Akmeemana Dayarathna Thero the President of the ethno religious fascist organization known as Sihala was interviewed by Police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department in Colombo on Monday June 30th 2014. During the course of the interview which lasted for 150 minutes with the Sihala Ravaya leader from Akmeemana a statement was recorded by the Police.
The interview and statement relate to the violence that occurred on June 15th 2014 at Aluthgama, Beruwela and Dharga nagar in which a large number of Mosques, Muslim owned businesses and homes were targeted by well armed mobs transported from outside into the area.
The violence was sparked off by a rally held at Aluthgama in which provovative speeches inciting hatred against Muslims were made by Bodhu Bala Sena General secretary Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero and the Sihala Ravaya President Venerable Akmeemana Dayarathne Thero.
It is learnt that Dayarathna Thero denied comolicity in the anti-Muslim violence and blamed Muslim extremists for the incidents
Akmeemana Dayarathne Thero was also quizzed about a threatening statement made by him against Kalutara district Deputy Inspector General of Police V. Indran on Sunday June 15th. Dayarathna Thero had warned DIG indran that the Police should stay away and “leave it to us”. He had allegedly said that “on this day which is our day the Muslims will be taught a good lesson”
