The Ravana Balaya staged a protest inside the Religious Affairs Ministry today against the new police unit launched to investigate incidents related to any religion.

Monks and supporters of the Ravana Balaya organization placed mats inside the Ministry office and carried out a sit-down protest.

The Ravana Balaya spoke to Ministry officials and demanded that the new unit be disbanded.

Officials of the Ministry said that they will raise the concerns of the monks with top Government officials and take a decision based on the Government response.

The new police unit was set up by President Mahinda Rajapaksa following several incidents reported in the recent past, mostly targeting Muslims.
