Nearly 300 new Tamil drivers and conductors, who are interested in joining the private bus industry, have been registered with the National Transport Commission (NTC). They will work in the Kilinochchi and Mannar districts. These drivers and conductors would undergo training from August 21 to 23, the NTC said.

The NTC media spokesman said that NTC would train the new recruits on providing a quality service to passengers, public relations, prevention of road accidents, the importance of tickets, containing sexual harassment of women and children in buses, the responsibility of driving without the influence of liquor and the CCTV camera system.

According to the NTC, after the training programme, the Tamil drivers and conductors would be given written tests. Those who pass the tests would be issued with uniforms and certificates.
