Death Toll Climbs to Two as a 19 Year Old Youth Injured in Military-Civilian Clash at Weliweriya Dies at Colombo National Hospital

A 19 year old youth injured in the clash between security forces and a group of protesters in Weliweriya last Thursday (01), succumbed to injuries last night (03) while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, Deputy Director of the hospital Dr. Siril de Silva told Ceylon Today Online.

He further stated that around 8 persons who were injured in the incident were receiving treatment at the hospital, during which one person succumbed to injuries, while the others who are currently receiving treatment are not in a critical condition.

Earlier a 17 year old youth named Akila Dinesh Jayawardena was killed due to gunshots injuries during a clash between the security forces and the public who were protesting over contaminated water in the Rathuwaswela , Waliweriya area in Gampaha on Thursday (01).

More than thirty persons who were injured in the incident were admitted to the Gampaha, Wathupitiya and Ragama Hospitals.
