UNHRC High Commissioner Navi Pillay has led the Sri Lankan Tamils astray and the TNA is carrying out duplicitous politics, Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, General Secretary of the Tamil National People’s Front charged. “TNA must stop cheating, and must work for the people,” he said.

“The present situation of Tamils in Sri Lanka is due to High Commissioner Navi Pillay, who has provided ample time for the Sri Lankan Government to engage in genocide and also helping them,” he alleged. He was addressing a media briefing held at the Jaffna Press Institute on Monday. “After the resolution adopted in 2012, the Tamils have suffered serious setbacks. The weakness of the 2012 resolution must be understood. Not only an international investigation should be taken up on the final war, but it should be from the time of departure of the British from Sri Lanka and about the hardships faced by Tamils since then,” he said.

“Investigation should be beyond requests by international community. The forthcoming resolution will not be in conformity with the earlier resolution adopted in March 2012. UN investigations will not be productive. Instead, actions are being taken to destroy and contain Tamils.”

“If the High Commissioner felt that the aspirations of Tamils were being taken care of following the 2012 resolution, what is going to be accomplished in the resolution of 2013? As the UNHRC is allowing a grace period for Sri Lanka, expectations of Tamils will not be fulfilled. They will be crushed further. COURTESY:DAILY MIRROR
