Families of the first batch of Tamil female recruits to the army, who are currently undergoing training in Kilinochchi, will receive 100 newly built houses. In the initial stage of this project 20 houses are to be constructed.
The decision to donate each family with a house was taken during a meeting with their parents held at the Security Force Headquarters in Kilinochchi recently, under the patronage of the Commander SF Head Quarters Kilinochchi, Major General Udaya Perera.
Initially under the first phase of the project, 20 houses will be constructed. Out of the 20 houses, eight will be built in the 57 Brigade area (Thirumurukkandi, Barathipuram, Wishwamadu,) while six houses each will be built in the 65 and 66 Brigade areas (Thewampiddi, Mallawi, Mallawi North, Ponnagar, Nachchikuda, Shiwaneshwari, Ranjipuram, Pudamurippumalei, Paranthan, Mukkampiddi, Kandapuram, Akkarayankulam). Construction work on the houses will be carried out by the Sri Lanka Army.
The cost to construct each house has been estimated at around Rs. 500,000, while Rs. 10 million has been allocated for the housing project from government funds allocated for development work.
