Former Parliamentarian Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra;s daughter Miss Hirunika Premachandra said that there is a conspiracy in the case relating to her father’s murder to change the evidence, as reported in the www.noc.lk website.

The main witness of the Bharatha Premachandra murder case, his drive, got his evidence changed recently through an affidavit. Accordingly the witness who claimed that the shooting was carried out first by parties of suspect Duminda Silva has now changed it to say that initial shooting was carried out by the parties of Bharata Lakshman.
Commenting on this matter Miss Hirunika Premachandra said that with the change of the evidence the case is in sad state.
Miss Hirunika Premachandra also said:
“The case is now in a pitiable situation. I tsaid some time ago that after proceeding with the case I do not know whether a situation will be created to make my father as the convict of this case. It seems that the things are moving towards such a scenario.
The reason is that when my father died, the person who was close to him, the driver has now changed his evidence saying that the initial shooting was done from my father’s side. I cannot understand what has happened to him. Was it after almost one year of giving evidence first that he remembered the need to change it?
I think there is some force or strategy behind this. And the other point is that driver was with us for 15 years. It is strange about his giving evidence to the other side after being loyal to us for such a long period. Because of this affidavit we have left with nothing now. He was the main witness from our side. Only thing is now we can make an appeal. What I see is that attempts are being made to remove this main suspect by the Duminda Silva side.
That means you say that he was changed by some force?
Certainly. I state it with responsibility. There is no other reason for him who was firmly with us to change the evidence. Because we are living in a society in which everything can be changed with money.
What are you planning to do next?
At present there is nothing left for us to do. Because our driver also had given evidence for the other side. we cannot do anything and we are in a major predicament. He was the main witness. He was the person who was close to my father when the incident occurred. If he is also changing the evidence given by him I am thinking what we shall do now
This series of murders have not ended yet. It has extended up to the murder of Hasitha Madawala. What is your opinion about it?
In any country the government can end such things by implementing proper Laws. By the Executive and the Law Implementing Agencies and by the people. The people also have a responsibility. Since the murder of my father if I did not raise my voice, the people would have forgotten everything long time ago.
See about the incident of the Kelaniya representative. The demonstrations were held on the first and second days and now it has been forgotten. The people of our country do not remember the things that happened today when it comes to tomorrow. So how can these murders be ended. It is the question.
Now you are accusing the government. But Hirunika we saw recently that when the statue of Bharata Lakshman was unveiled there were several Ministers and politicians?
Yes all of them were my father’s friends who did politics with him. All of them who came were people who cried for my father. Even today they call me personally and say that the struggle you are making for justice is correct and they say they bless for it and they remain behind me as strength for it. The only thing is that they do not have the freedom I have. They are in a party with some objective.COURTESY:Mirror.lk
