Tamil Comedy actor Vadivelu is expected to join the Vaiko led Marumalarchi Dradivida Munnetra Kazhagham(MDMK) at a public meeting in Trichy.
Vadivelu was the top most Comedian in Tamil films for years but suffered after his active political participation in Tamil Nadu 2011 polls
Vadivelu hailing from Madurai was chief speaker on Dravida Munntera Kazhagham(DMK)platforms during 2011 election campaign in which DMK lost
Vadivelu spoke harshly against actor Vijayakanth whose Desiya Mutpokku Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham(DMDK)contested with Jayalalithaa’s ADMK
The Anna-Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham (ADMK) combine won decisively & DMDK got more seats than the DMK making Vijayakanth opposition leader
With Jayalalithaa becoming chief minister&Vijayakanth as opposition leader an undeclared boycott campaign was launched against Vadivelu
This anti-Vadivelu campaign resulted in the actor known as “Vaigai Puyal”(storm of Vaigai river) being deprived of chances to act in films
Vadivelu, uncrowned king of Tamil film comedians was de-throned&placed in virtual cold storage while actor Santhanam filled his position
Though Vadivelu’s popularity with film fans did not wane producers&directors shunned him for fear of political repercussions by ADMK & DMDK
Even Kalainjer Karunanidhi’s DMK for which partry Vadivelu ardently campaigned abandoned him with even DMK filmmakers ostracizing the actor.
Recent political developments saw Vijayakanth’s DMDK parting ways with Jayalalithaa’s ADMK & moving closer to Karunanidhi’s DMK
The speculation that a DMDK -DMK alignment was imminent worried Vadivelu as the comedian felt insecure of hisfuture in the DMK-DMDK tie up
This apparently made Vadivelu gravitate towards MDMK as Vaiko still remains independent of both ADMK&DMK& is firmly opposed to Vijayakanth
Vaiko too underwent a political loss recently when his deputy &chief propagandist “Nanjil” Sampath croosed over from MDMK to the ruling ADMK
It is against this backdrop that Vadivelu is tipped to join the MDMK in Trichy where a book of Vaiko’s Parliament speeches is to be launched
