I thought I can leave after a successful World Cup. I am extremely sad. I have not officially told Sri Lanka Cricket. I am waiting to discuss it with them”, Jayasuriya said at a post-match Press conference after his team lost to Pakistan on Saturday night that ended the team’s unsuccessful T20 World Cup campaign.

The million dollar question however will be what is there left to be discussed between Jayasuriya and a failed hierarchy at SLC that thrives in what can be called the republic of amnesia where it takes just days to forget tragedies. Five years have gone by since 12 former cricketers and administrators of high integrity stepped into the Court of Appeal with a Petition challenging power abuse, nepotism, cronyism and financial mismanagement at Sri Lanka Cricket.

It was followed by two Probe Reports compiled by retired Supreme Court judges and another by a Cabinet sub-committee calling for the establishment of a Board of Directors to run the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket which they said was the only way to clean up the mess.

Record breaking bowler Muttiah Muralidaran, Sidat Wettimuny a man of impeccable integrity, former captain Michael Tissera and former cricket secretaries S. Skandakumar and Kushil Gunasekera are some of the surviving members who signed the Petition in 2021.

“Sri Lanka’s cricket is seriously ill and requires immediate surgery. The Constitution is severely conflicted between clubs and country. This system encourages the office-bearers to take decisions mostly to satisfy its voter base (clubs) causing the playing standards of Sri Lanka cricket to deteriorate”, the Petition to the Court of Appeal stated.

Even Parliament could not enforce its own unanimous vote for change at SLC that resulted in the chief crusader for an overhaul in the administration of cricket, Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, shown the door by the then President Ranil Wickremasinghe.

But most baffling and paradoxical is the inaction of current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to implement change at SLC despite being a vocal critic against the conduct of cricket officials when he was an Opposition law-maker.

Courtesy:Daily Mirror

By Callistus Davy Besieged coach Sanath Jayasuriya has found himself trapped or poised to backtrack after telling the media he will throw in the towel after the T20 World Cup match against Pakistan last Saturday and then deciding to stay on for talks with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that has become the fiefdom of a …

Continue reading ‘The baffling inaction of current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in not making changes at Sri Lanka Cricket despite being a vocal critic against the conduct of cricket officials when he was an Opposition MP’ »

[12
