{"id":86306,"date":"2025-08-23T01:11:43","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T05:11:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=86306"},"modified":"2025-08-23T07:30:46","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T11:30:46","slug":"86306","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=86306","title":{"rendered":"Former   President Ranil Wickremesinghe Arrested on August 22  by CID  for alleged misuse of State funds for personal UK trip in 2023  and  Remanded by Colombo Fort Magistrate Until Aug 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was yesterday ( Aug 22 )  remanded by the Colombo Fort Magistrate\u2019s Court for  four days until 26 August.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wickremesinghe was arrested earlier in the day by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after appearing before the sleuths to record a statement.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The arrest follows an investigation into allegations that Wickremesinghe used State funds for a private visit to London in September 2023 to attend a university ceremony with his wife, Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe.<br \/>\nThe trip coincided with his return from the Group of 77 (G77) Summit in Havana, but was not classified as an official engagement. Investigators allege that Government resources, including security, were misused.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the CID questioned former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake and former Private Secretary Sandra Perera in connection with the arrangements for the visit.
