The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has secured a landslide victory at the 2020 General Election securing a total of 6,853,693 votes, which is a percentage of 59.09%.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) secured a total of 2,771, 984 votes (23.90%).<\/p>\n

The Jathika Jana Balawegaya or the National Peoples’ Power (NPP) came at third with 445,958 votes (3.84%) and the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) came at fourth with 327,168 votes (2.82%). However, the UNP only managed to secure 249,435 votes (2.15%) and will be entitled to a single seat from the national list quota.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, the votes garbered and number of seats secured by the main parties including National List Seats are as follows :<\/p>\n

SLPP – 6, 853, 693 Votes – 145 Seats<\/p>\n

SJB – 2,771 ,984 Votes -54 seats<\/p>\n

JVP – 445 ,958 votes – 3 seats<\/p>\n

TNA – 327, 168 Votes – 10 seats<\/p>\n

UNP – 249, 135 Votes – 1 Seat (National List<\/p>\n

Others 850 , 698 Votes – 12 Seats including National List
\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

No Two\/Thirds<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, the SLPP fell short of 150 seats, required to secure the 2\/3 majority. <\/p>\n

Even though the total number of registered votes stood at 16,263,885, the polled votes stood at 12,343,309 (75.89%) which means, 3,920,576 votes were not polled.<\/p>\n

From the total number of polled votes, the valid number of votes stand at 11,598,936 (71.32%) with the rejected number of votes stand at 744,373 (4.58%).<\/p>\n

However, the SLPP fell short of 150 seats, required to secure the 2\/3 majority. <\/p>\n
