{"id":67097,"date":"2020-01-12T01:16:11","date_gmt":"2020-01-12T06:16:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=67097"},"modified":"2020-01-12T01:16:11","modified_gmt":"2020-01-12T06:16:11","slug":"around-3000-of-the-80000-sri-lankans-living-as-refugees-in-india-are-willing-to-return-home-voluntarily-says-foreign-relations-minister-dinesh-gunawardene-after-having-talks-with-indias-external-a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=67097","title":{"rendered":"Around 3000 of the 80,000 Sri Lankans Living as Refugees in India are Willing to Return Home Voluntarily Says Foreign Relations Minister Dinesh Gunawardene  After Having Talks With India&#8217;s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishanker in New Delhi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Chris Kamalendran<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Around 3000 Sri Lankan refugees living in India are willing to return to their motherland on their own accord, International Relations Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told the Sunday Times.<\/p>\n<p>In his first official visit to India as minister in charge of foreign affairs early this week, Mr Gunawardena met India\u2019s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and during talks they discussed the return of Sri Lankans who had fled to India during the war.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Around 80,000 Sri Lankans who fled the country during the war live in welfare centres in Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are making arrangements to accept the returnees and we will provide necessary facilities to them through the respective District Secretariats. The first batch of returnees is expected early February.
