The Colombo Permanent High Court-at-Bar Bench yesterday appreciated the prompt reaction by the parties concerned to ensure a conducive environment for witnesses.<\/p>\n

The judges urged all parties involved in the D. A. Rajapaksa Museum case, to act themselves in a manner that secures the respect of their professions inside court.The Trial-at-Bar Bench comprising High Court Judges Sampath Abeykoon (President), Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne made this request following an observation by Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris<\/p>\n

On January 22, Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing for the Attorney General raised objections into the highly \u2018militarised\u2019 environment around the Colombo Permanent High Court-at-Bar.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Trial-at-Bar Bench yesterday appreciated the prompt reaction by the parties concerned to ensure a conducive environment for witnesses with the absence of security personnel in civvies inside the courtroom.<\/p>\n

DSG Peiris also appreciated the behaviour of former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who respectfully refused to make statements to the media in the court premises.<\/p>\n

At a previous occasion DSG Peiris appearing for the prosecution raised objections into the highly \u2018militarised\u2019 environment around the Colombo Permanent High Court-at-Bar. He informed court that this would adversely affect witnesses expected to testify before court in due course.<\/p>\n

He also brought the attention of the court that some people are engaging in media circus outside the court in a manner affecting witnesses that they will not be safe.<\/p>\n

Order on Gota\u2019s preliminary objections fixed for Feb. 11<\/strong> <\/p>\n

The order regarding the preliminary objections raised by former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and six others challenging the Colombo Permanent High Court-at-Bar\u2019s jurisdiction to hear D. A. Rajapaksa Museum case was today fixed for February 11.<\/p>\n

The Trial-at-Bar bench comprised High Court Judges Sampath Abeykoon (President), Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.<\/p>\n

Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Dileepa Peiris appearing for the Attorney General today provided answers to the arguments presented by defence counsel who challenged the court\u2019s jurisdiction to hear this case.<\/p>\n

DSG Peiris submitted to court that Permanent High Court-at-Bar was established through the provisions of Judicature (Amendment) Act, No. 9 of 2018 and the matter was extensively debated at the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
