{"id":60585,"date":"2018-09-03T18:46:16","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T22:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=60585"},"modified":"2018-09-03T18:46:16","modified_gmt":"2018-09-03T22:46:16","slug":"new-south-wales-student-mohamed-nizamdeen-arrested-on-suspected-charges-is-nephew-of-sri-lankan-cabinet-minister-faiszer-musthapha-state-australian-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=60585","title":{"rendered":"New South Wales Student Mohamed Nizamdeen Arrested  on Suspected Charges is Nephew of Sri Lankan cabinet Minister Faiszer Musthapha State  Australian Media."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Australian law enforcement authorities today announced that the New South Wales student accused of documenting plans in a notebook to assassinate two senior Australian politicians is the nephew of a Sri Lankan cabinet minister.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ABC revealed Mohamed Nizamdeen, 25, is related to Sri Lankan MP Faiszer Musthapha, who is the country&#8217;s Sports and Local Government Minister.<\/p>\n<p>The PhD student,, is also the grandson of Jehan Kamer Cassim, the late former chairman of one of Sri Lanka&#8217;s biggest banks \u2014 Bank of Ceylon.<\/p>\n<p>Nizamdeen, who also worked as a UNSW business systems analyst, was arrested at the Kensington campus last Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>His arrest came after a colleague found a notebook allegedly containing details of plans to kill former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull and his deputy Julie Bishop.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged list of targets also included the former speaker Bronwyn Bishop, the Sydney Opera House, major train stations and police stations across the harbour city.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday police told a media conference Nizamdeen appeared to be an Islamic State affiliate.<\/p>\n<p>Mithra De Alwis, a friend of Nizamdeen&#8217;s brother, Kamer, today posted a message on Facebook on Kamer&#8217;s behalf, describing Mr Nizamdeen as &#8220;an open minded Muslim&#8221; who he believed was innocent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He would have had absolutely no reason to engage in such disgusting, hateful crimes to a city, which has been extremely opening to him for the past six years,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He has not been able to communicate with any one of us back home and we are simply broken and deeply affected by this unnecessary turn of events.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Plain-clothed detectives seized computers, mobile phones and documents from Nizamdeen&#8217;s inner-city apartment at Zetland on Friday before conducting further raids on university grounds.<\/p>\n<p>Police allege Nizamdeen, who does not have any criminal history in Australia, was operating by himself, but do not believe he was capable of carrying out a terror attack.<\/p>\n<p>The commerce graduate was one of the faces of UNSW&#8217;s Hero Program and had worked as a business systems analyst since 2016, where he helped develop several projects aimed at stopping identity theft.<\/p>\n<p>While his student visa is due to expire at the end of this month, the Australian Federal Police have applied for a Criminal Justice Stay visa so they can prosecute him in Australia. <\/p>\n<p><em>Courtesy:Asian Mirror<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"tweetbutton60585\" class=\"tw_button\" style=\"float:right;margin-left:10px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/share?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdbsjeyaraj.com%2Fdbsj%2F%3Fp%3D60585&amp;text=New%20South%20Wales%20Student%20Mohamed%20Nizamdeen%20Arrested%20%20on%20Suspected%20Charges%20is%20Nephew%20of%20Sri%20Lankan%20cabinet...%20&amp;related=&amp;lang=en&amp;count=horizontal\" class=\"twitter-share-button\"  style=\"width:55px;height:22px;background:transparent url('https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-tweet-button\/tweetn.png') no-repeat  0 0;text-align:left;text-indent:-9999px;display:block;\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australian law enforcement authorities today announced that the New South Wales student accused of documenting plans in a notebook to assassinate two senior Australian politicians is the nephew of a Sri Lankan cabinet minister.
