DMK chief M Karunanidhi, being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection, was shifted to a private hospital from his residence here early today (28) due to dip in blood pressure and is now stable, the hospital said.<\/p>\n
The 94-year-old leader was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Kauvery Hospital around 1:30 am.<\/p>\n
A bulletin issued at 8 pm said \u201cformer Chief Minister Karunanidhi\u2019s health condition continues to remain stable with ongoing active medical support.<\/p>\n
He is continuously being monitored and treated by the panel of expert doctors in the ICU.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier the hospital said he was admitted after his blood pressure had dropped.<\/p>\n

Karunanidhi\u2019s family members discussed the treatment modalities with hospital authorities.<\/p>\n
DMK leaders, including party working president and Karunanidhi\u2019s son M K Stalin, and other frontline leaders such as Duraimurugan, Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and former Union minister A Raja were present at the hospital.<\/p>\n
The DMK leaders had also visited the nonagenarian leader\u2019s house in Gopalapuram area before he was taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n
Karunanidhi\u2019s estranged son and former DMK leader M K Alagiri, who was expelled from the party by the DMK chief in January 2014 after a prolonged struggle for power with his younger brother Stalin, also visited his father\u2019s house and the hospital.<\/p>\n
Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the hospital and enquired about the health of Karunanidhi with hospital authorities, Stalin and other members of the DMK president\u2019s family.<\/p>\n
Chief Minister K Palaniswami told reporters at Salem that the state government was ready to provide all possible medical assistance to the ailing Karunanidhi, who was a five-time CM, if it was approached.<\/p>\n
Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, wishing a quick recovery, tweeted: \u201cKalaignar M Karunanidhi is a born fighter. I am sure he will fight back and return fast to good health. Wish him a speedy recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, \u201cMy prayers for Sh Karunanidhi\u2019s fast recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n
State health minister C Vijayabaskar too wished the DMK supremo a speedy recovery.<\/p>\n
After receiving the news about Karunanidhi being admitted to hospital, party cadre from various parts of the state poured in there chanting \u201clong live Thalaivar\u201d (leader) and \u201cmeendu vaa thalaiva,\u201d (come back leader).<\/p>\n
Hours before Karunanidhi was moved to the hospital, Stalin had said the former chief minister\u2019s health was improving.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, he had assured people that there was nothing to worry about his father\u2019s health.<\/p>\n
Security was tightened at the former chief minister\u2019s residence as DMK cadres thronged the area.<\/p>\n
Later in the day, senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mukul Wasnik visited members of Karunanidhi\u2019s family and spoke to doctors at the hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cKarunanidhiji is totally stable… he is improving… we are praying for his speedy recovery,\u201d Azad told reporters, adding the Congress high command had directed them to enquire about his health.<\/p>\n
State Congress leaders, including EVKS Elangovan, TNCC chief Su Thirunavukkarasar, were present at the hospital.<\/p>\n
Actors including Prabhu and Nasser also paid a visit to the hospital.<\/p>\n

For the past two years, though Karunanidhi did not make any public appearance owing to ill-health, he had visited the party headquarters and still holds the top post in the Dravidian party.<\/p>\n
On July 18, the leader had underwent a procedure to change his tracheotomy tube to help him in breathing.<\/p>\n
Karunanidhi, who is addressed as \u2018Kalaignar\u2019 (artiste) by his supporters, followers and some politicians, entered his 50th year as party chief yesterday.<\/p>\n
