{"id":59879,"date":"2018-07-05T16:16:26","date_gmt":"2018-07-05T20:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=59879"},"modified":"2018-07-05T16:16:26","modified_gmt":"2018-07-05T20:16:26","slug":"unp-state-minister-of-child-affairs-vijayakala-maheswaran-submits-resignation-letters-to-president-maithripala-sirisena-and-prime-minister-ranil-wickremesinghe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=59879","title":{"rendered":"UNP State Minister of Child Affairs Vijayakala Maheswaran Submits Resignation Letters to President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>by Zacki Jabbar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>State Minister of Child Affairs Vijayakala Maheshwaran yesterday quit her portfolio, pending government and UNP inquiries into her remarks praising the LTTE , during a Presidential Mobile Service event in Jaffna on Monday,<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, at meeting with Vijayakala, on Wednesday, had called for her explanation, saying that the government would not permit a revival of the LTTE, UNP sources said.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>They said that the beleaguered State Minister had submitted her letter of resignation to both President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Wickremesinghe requested Sirisena to suspend Vijayakala from her ministerial duties until official inquiries against her were completed.<\/p>\n<p>The government, on Wednesday, said that it was studying the video recording of the speech in question and would take appropriate action.<\/p>\n<p>Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has requested the Attorney General to ascertain if Vijayakala\u2019s controversial statement had violated the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Vijayakala, responding to questions raised over her remarks, by Deputy Minister of Social Empowerment Ranjan Ramanayake, who contacted her over the telephone, while addressing a press conference in Colombo on Tuesday, said, &#8220;Tension, tension. It was a slip of the tongue . I did not say that the LTTE should be revived. What I meant was that we lived in peace during that era.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To a query by Ramanayake as to who had murdered T.
