A no-confidence motion signed by 39 MPs of the Joint Opposition against Health Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne has been handed over to the Speaker\u2019s Office yesterday.<\/p>\n

The motion sought to oust Minister Senaratne on 11 charges, JO MP Ranjith Zoysa told The Island.<\/p>\n

He said they would request Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to include the motion in the Order Book of Parliament and take it up for debate as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Soysa said they believed that the JVP MPs and SLFP MPs in the government ranks, too, would vote with them for the motion.<\/p>\n

Among the charges are Minister Senaratne evading the investigation process conducted by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on complaints lodged by parliamentarians and civil organisations, creating a series of crisis in the country\u2019s health sector by paving the way for privatisation of medical education in the country, misleading the public in taking over the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital, which is owned by a private body but now funded by the public purse, misusing his powers as the minister in giving legitimacy to the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine, deliberately avoiding to publicise the minimum standards of medical education in the country, failing to find immediate solution to dengue epidemic and preventing dengue patients from seeking treatment in government hospitals, handing over the Mutwal Fisheries Harbour to a private company as the Minister of Fisheries in a manner causing massive loss to the government, and engaging in actions such as influencing and threatening the Department of the Attorney General with regard to filing and investigating certain cases.<\/p>\n

The motion has been signed by MPs Dinesh Gunawardena, Wimal Weerawansa, Bandula Gunawardena, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Shehan Semasinghe, Geetha Kumaraisnghe, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Dullas Allahapperuma, Kumara Welgama, Priyankara Jayaratne, C B Rathnayake, Prasanna Ranatunga, Mohan P de Silva, Kanchana Wijesekara, Sisira Jayakody, Udaya Padmashantha, Namal Rajapaksa, Piyal Nishantha, Prasanna Ranaweera, Kanaka Herath, Tharaka Balasuriya, Indika Anurudda, Niroshan Premaratne, Jayantha Samaraweera, Johnston Fernando, Vidura Wickramanayake, Shriyani Wijewickrama, Salinda Dissanayake, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Vijitha Berugoda, Ranjith de Zoysa, Ramesh Pathirana and five other JO MPs.<\/p>\n
