{"id":54642,"date":"2017-08-16T01:11:02","date_gmt":"2017-08-16T05:11:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=54642"},"modified":"2017-08-16T04:09:16","modified_gmt":"2017-08-16T08:09:16","slug":"shiranthi-escorted-by-mahinda-questioned-by-cid-over-rugby-star-thajudeens-murder-amidst-protests-alleging-political-witchhunt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dbsjeyaraj.com\/dbsj\/?p=54642","title":{"rendered":"Shiranthi Escorted by Mahinda Questioned by CID Over Rugby Star Thajudeen&#8217;s Murder Amidst Protests Alleging Political witchhunt."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> Sri Lanka\u2019s former first lady, Shiranthi Rajapakse was questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department on Tuesday over the murder of a former national rugby player<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Shiranthi, was escorted into the CID by her husband and former President Mahinda Rajapakse after she was summoned to provide a statement.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>She is due to be questioned over the alleged use of a defender vehicle belonging to her Siriliya Saviya Foundation, an NGO chaired by her, which was used during the murder of ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen.<\/p>\n<p>A protest was held outside the CID headquarters in Colombo by supporters of the Rajapakse family, with protesters blaming the government for carrying out a political witch hunt against the former first family.<\/p>\n<p>Thajudeen, a former Rugby captain, was killed in Colombo in May 2012 in what appeared to be an accident, but it was later ruled as a murder, with the accident staged.<\/p>\n<p>Mahinda Rajapakse\u2019s second son, Yoshitha Rajapakse has also been questioned over Thajudeen\u2019s murder in the past.
